We took the kids to Walt Disney World to celebrate my 40th birthday and we had an amazing time. This is the second time we have gone..our kids were all big enough to go crazy and ride all the fast rides..over and over. Thank goodness for Bill he kept up with them while many times I would go find some shade and a cup of ice and make friends will all the old people sitting on the bench. We did all four parks and LOVED IT!!! I am sad to say we had to come home to Idaho :(

The Sting of Winter

Summer is long gone, a blanket of snow now covers the ground where my garden grew. The sting of winter slaps my face and takes my breath away when I step outside. Life is crazy busy with the kids and all the driving..driving...driving! I feel like I spend all winter counting down the days until summer returns. I am a California girl and proud of it, I love the sun and the heat. I sometimes wonder how Bill and I ended up living in the snow when we both dread it. We have been married 17 years now and have spent every one of those years living where it snows. I went to lunch with friends on Saturday and confessed that I HATE The Snow! They were all so shocked by my words, I laughed! I am not afraid to say it! It just isn't all that it's cracked up to be. So I decided this morning I would wake up and have a new outlook on the snow, make friends with it than maybe I would enjoy winter! Well lets just say I tried..I still HATE it and want to move to the beach! :)

Summer Vacation on the Oregon Coast

We took a trip to the Oregon Coast with Bill's family. We had such a wonderful time and did so many fun things. It was so hard to leave and come back to the real world. The beach was incredible and we spent most of our time just walking it and collecting sand dollars and shells. I wish it never had to end!

Jacob and I did a quick trip down to see my family. We had a great time seeing everyone. We swam with all the cousins and ate my parent's Italian food.... and let me tell you it's the best in the world! We did a day of Disneyland with my sister Anna and her boys, and my brother Gino his wife Julie and their boys. Bill had to go to Florida on business and the girls were at camp, so it was just me and Jake. We had a blast!

Blood and Softball

Bill played on a softball league this year and of course we all know he is a stud. Well this stud of mine decided to be a hero and slide into 3rd base. Lets go back to the last time Bill decided to slide. It was 14 years ago he was in law school and he broke his ankle sliding into 2nd base. He vowed that he would never slide again. Well never say never! It was painful to watch and I'm sure much more painful for him, he said it felt like hitting concrete. Well it resulted in a bloody leg, elbow and a pulled muscle. He said it was all worth it...he was safe.

This picture doesn't even do it justice...it was nasty! It turned green and red and grossed us all out. I had to change our sheets every night for weeks.

Family Friends and the Fourth of July!

It has been a Pope/Fox tradition to spend the 4th of July together. Our families love spending time together and even though we have a big age difference between kids we all seem to blend well. My children have such a love for the Fox children and it is tender seeing them all together. This makes our lives as parents even easier as the kids love and help one another out and the grown ups get to hang out. We always pack in as much fun as we can..this time we went to the open house of the new temple in West Jordan...baseball game..swimming..parade..hot air balloon launching..fireworks and we had a special chance to see our friend Kyle and his sweet wife and family. We came home so tired but had so much fun! Thanks Fox family for putting up with us! We love you guys!

The girls just finished up a great year of dance. They have both have been very busy with jazz, ballet and hip hop. The driving and the money just about killed us but the experience for them was so worth it. I am so proud of both of them. Both girls auditioned for the dance team at the studio and both made it.... so in the fall we will be spending even more money and living in our car. Good job Stinky and Smelly we love you!

Jordyn had a great softball season and did such a good job, we are so proud of her. She had long days and late nights, tons of practicing and games and still maintained awesome grades. It was so fun watching her play you could feel her excitement for the game. She is already planning and talking about next year! Good Job D!

Jacob's team this year is the Giants. As I looked as these pictures I couldn't help but think how much Jake looks like Bill. Bill has such a love for the game and Jake shares this love with his dad. I love watching him play, he is such a good ball player!

Empty Nester's Club

On Sunday while sitting in church the kids were teasing us as they read the church bulletin. There was an announcement for a group called The Empty Nester's Club. This is a group of people who no longer have kids living at home. My kids say it's the old people club. Well for some reason they all thought it would be soooo funny to pick on Bill and I. They reminded us that in only 10 short years they will all be grown and gone and we can join that club. They thought they were hilarious! Well at first I was sad when I thought about that....how can it only be 10 short years and even my boy will be gone? :( It is hard enough for me to watch Jordyn and Emily grow up...they are both such beautiful young women, but at least I will have Jake a little longer. I was not enjoying the teasing.....until I reminded them that in 10 years Bill and I will be traveling to Europe...Bahamas...Disney World...without them. All three of them said "HEY NO FAIR! WE WANT TO COME WITH YOU" I said so sorry I can't I will be in The Empty Nester's Club! Oh sweet revenge :)

The Dance Festival

On Saturday Jordyn participated in the Dance Festival. It is put on by our church and involves an enormous amount of youth from all over Idaho. As you can see by the pictures there was a lot of youth that participated. It was held at Boise State in the indoor arena. It was Amazing! The youth have been learning dances for several months and then on this night they all come together and perform. Jordyn had a blast! After it was over they stayed
and had a dance until midnight. If you click on the pictures you can see Jordyn...she is the one with the long dark beautiful hair!

San Francisco

We went to San Francisco this weekend with my sister Anna and her hubby Daren to celebrate my sisters 40th birthday. On Sunday we went to a Giants game and had awesome seats! We sat in the second row on the third base line. It was so neat to sit so close to the players and see the game close up. The stadium was incredible! We walked all over the city, took the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf and saw a lot of interesting things and people, including a naked guy who was casually crossing the street. I experienced several new things from eating Calamari and Crab cakes to diving in taxi cabs with out of control drivers . It was a wonderful weekend!

Tha good old days when we were young and not so gray!

Next week Bill and I are going to San Francisco for a few days. We are meeting my sister Anna and her hubby Daren. My sister and I both celebrate our birthdays in the month of April, we were born 1 year and 6 days apart. We have always been very close growing up and continue to stay close even though we live in different states. I am so excited to spend some time with her I look forward to the endless laughter! I am also so thrilled to have some time with my hubby, I love this guy so much. The other day we went to lunch and sat by the window in the restaurant. As the warm sun shined on his face I found myself feeling giddy inside. Even after 17 years of marriage I still love this man with all my heart.

It will be hard for me to leave my children, we rarely leave them behind. They have always gone EVERYWHERE with us, and I like it that way. I enjoy experiencing life and adventures with them. But this is an adult weekend only! I am counting the days!

Jordyn has been playing high school softball for a few weeks now and really loves it. She is doing great! We have a thing about numbers in our house(the kids get this from Bill) Some numbers are better than others when your playing ball, so it is always a goal of the kids to try and get a good one. Jordyn is number 5! That is a good number in our house ( or in Bill's world of sports). I'm sure to most people it means nothing...but when it has to do with sports and Bill everything means something! If you know Bill you know what an Amazing baseball player he was and still is! It has always been a huge part of his identity, and it is fun to see him share his passion and pass his love of the game onto our children. When we were first married we would lay in bed before we drifted off to sleep he would quiz me on sports. "Give me a team, a player and the coach". I used to think he was crazy... but I learned so much. I look back on that and laugh. I had to go get a library book for Jake on Yankee Stadium the other day. I was talking to the librarian as I was requesting a book from another library and she started inquiring about the reason behind the book and began to ask me some baseball questions. I would have made my husband proud! I had all this baseball knowledge in my brain that just came flowing out of my mouth. I shocked myself! Jacob's baseball season is beginning and you can bet that we will all be praying he gets a good number!

Lou Lou turned 12!

Friday night we celebrated Emily's 12th bday! We went to the mall with some of her friends and had a mall scavenger hunt. It was a blast! They had to do a variety of things from knocking knuckles with a store employee, proposing to a teammate in front of a bridal store, wearing baby shoes on their hands, finding a Seattle Mariners ball cap and put it on, balance a book about the Obama family on someones head and soooo many more. It was a great night full of laughter and fun.
Emily has really grown up. Today at church Bill and I watched this little baby girl who reminds us of Emily when she was small. Watching this baby brought back such fun memories of Emily! Emily has always been our happy child always smiling and laughing. She has grown into a beautiful young woman! We love her so much! Happy Birthday Luly Bug!

Jordyn Made The JV Softball Team!

We are so proud of Jordyn she made the JV softball team at Rocky Mountain High! She has been getting up extra early several morning during the week to make a 6:30 am optional practice since Christmas break. They had try outs last week and she was thrilled to get on the team. The weather has been awful here, it has been freezing cold and some crazy storms have rolled in. Jordyn has played ball outside everyday after school for 3 hours in sleet, rain, and snow never complaining. Bill and I are so proud of here positive attitude and determination! She has a crazy schedule during the week balancing sports, dance 2 nights a week, mutual, piano and homework. She is an amazing girl!!!

Life has been busy busy busy! We had the stomach flu in our house last week it was not fun trying to care for poor sick Emily while I was down and out . This week we have a trillion things going on, book report and project on Abraham Lincoln, homework, homework and more homework! Jordyn needs a physical before softball try outs on Friday and Saturday. Jake has a baseball clinic all day Saturday and then a blue and gold banquet for scouts that night. We have school meetings, volunteering and piano, and the girls dance 3 nights a week and Jordyn has mutual. I wish that was it... but it's not. I get overwhelmed and cranky trying to keep up with everything. I sometimes want to hide under the covers!! But if I did who would do all the laundry? I keep reminding myself...enjoy the ride...enjoy the ride! I think I would enjoy it more if I could go on vacation first!

My Little Friends

When it comes to parenting I am the one who tends to be more strict than Bill. I often tell him that I don't want to be the bad guy all the time. Other moms tell me that it just comes with the roll we have taken on as Mothers. Lately my heart has been softer and more tender when it comes to these three little friends of mine. A few month ago I was upset about something and I was trying to discipline one of the kids. I was looking at Bill to back me up, and in his way he kind of let them off the hook. This of course didn't go over to well with me, so when we had a moment alone I told him that he doesn't always have to be their friend and that it is okay to say NO sometimes. Do you know what he said back to me? He told me that it is okay to be their friend and I don't have to be their enemy. Those words hit me HARD!!! It made me cry at first and then it made me wake up! He didn't say it to be mean, he was trying to make a point. I 'm not sure why I am sharing this with my blogging friends. I guess because it made an impact on me. I love my children more than I can even express. I think I go through my routine each day trying to feed, cloth, protect, drop off, pick up and do all the mother things mothers do and I sometimes forget to stop and enjoy the ride. I am so blessed to have three beautiful, healthy, intelligent, funny, wonderful people that I get to share my life with everyday. My heart has been so full lately, and I am so thankful for my friends.

I sometimes wish I could go back to my younger years when I didn't have a care in the world. Being a Mom is such a wonderful blessing but such a hard job. I've been thinking a lot lately about my parenting skills and how I need to make some changes. I no longer have little babies I have almost grown children, and I am hoping and praying I can do a good job with each one of them. This is my sweet little friend Kaison. This has been a very long and hard week for him and his parents and everyone who loves him. Kaison had to have a blood transfusion and a bone marrow biopsy. We all waited and PRAYED and PRAYED and PRAYED for him. I am so happy to say that everything turned out wonderful. Kaison is so wonderful, bright and so funny and the best big brother to Kalon. Just Put Your Hood Up!

When our girls were little we really wanted them to try new things, not to be afraid and let fear stop them, knowing that if they would try things that scare them (like a fast ride) that they would like it and want to experience more. I have to admit we have often times pushed our kids to do things even when they have been reluctant. Well the girls will do just about anything, and Jake, well he has always followed along going with the flow of our family, I never really worry that he will be afraid. While in California we rode the Tower of Terror this ride drops you 13 stories, it is crazy and fun. As we were getting on this ride Jake was a little nervous, I told him that I have a trick that helps me whenever I get scared, I just put my hood up, or as Bill calls it put your lid on. It makes you feel warm safe and protected. I swear it works I know it is sounds crazy. We decided as a family to all put our hoods up, and the funny thing was that the family behind us decided to join us. When we looked at the picture we thought that was hilarious. So when life throws you a whirl don't run and hide, just put your hood up and carry on!

Goodbye 2008 We Won't Miss You!

This past year has been crazy for us. I am so glad to move onto bigger and better things. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for all God has blessed me with, but I won't miss 2008. So my hope is that in 2009 things will be more peaceful, more fun, and for heaven's sake, enough with all the stress already! I have made several New Year Resolutions. I don't think I have ever really made a New years Resolution before, but what the heck, I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. So if you care here they are. Tell my husband something kind and loving every day! Read my scriptures everyday and learn to say "No" ( because I never seem to get those words to come out of my mouth). I am giving it my best effort and so far so good!

Well for Christmas my Sister-in-law Shannon made me the best gift. I LOVE IT. I say these words everyday, multiple times a day and they are always spoken with love and laughter. I love that they have become a part of my decor! Thanks Shannon!

What the Heck!

Yesterday(Tuesday) around 2:00pm I received a text message from Jordyn. This wasn't too surprising because she will text me sometimes during the day if she needs to tell me something. But this is what it said.

Bomb Threat we have been evacuated!

What the heck! I had to read it again to make sure I was reading it correctly. I text back, Where are you? She replies, Outside in the snow. I call her immediately and she explains all the details as she is giggling.

I said Jordyn this is not funny, a mother never wants to receive that kind of news.

Jordyn explained that she was fine, just freezing after hours of being in the snow. I wanted to go get her but she could not leave campus so I had to wait. I called Bill freaking out, he of course is calm, (I freak out out enough for the both of us) Well they never let them back in the school, she made it home safe and sound, and there was no bomb. It is hard enough for me to deal with this kid growing up, learning to let her have some freedom and trust that the world isn't going to swallow her up and eat her! I hope I can make it through these high school years, Emily is right behind her, then Jake. AHHHHHHH!

VACATION

We went to California for Thanksgiving, we decided to take the kids and go down for a vacation and to see family. We had so much fun, and really enjoyed our time together as a family. We went to Disneyland and the beach and ate way too much In-N-Out!

As the morning begins and all our family gets up to face a new day Bill usually has a "Thought for the day" Most of the time it has to do with sports (ya I know shocking!) Jacob is playing Y basketball right now so Bill likes to give thoughts to inspire him, like "Be aggressive" and "Take it to the rack" and "Use your butt as a weapon". When I am having a bad day he will say, "The day is going to pass anyways so make the best out of it". We all get a good laugh or sometimes we roll our eyes (shh don't tell Bill) and the kids will say it to each other as jokes during the day.

Well I wake up with thoughts that I like to share with my family too. I will often change the meaning of a word or mispronounce it. I will get stuck on a word or a phrase, this word or phrase will stay in my mind for days, weeks or months. I use it as often as I can because I am Hilarious! It's okay you can admit it. I am okay with it. My kids have developed this trait or as I refer to it as a Talent! We have a list of words that we all use on a daily basis, to those outside our family they mean something completely different than they do to us. We all have a twisted sense of humor, and all these inside jokes. I never knew having a family would be so fun! They kill me sometimes, we can be somewhere and something random will come out of one of their mouths and we are all cracking up. People look at us like we are Ferns. (that is one of our words, means geek, nerd or dork). Not everyone can appreciate this kind of humor, I have to give credit to my sister Anna and her husband Darren for some of these words, I love when we talk and and she gets all our strange lingo!
The word for today is Keester! The first time I said it they all gave me a confused look, and then I could see the light go on in their eyes, and everyone was using it(even Bill). I was So Proud.
We will be going on a trip soon, a very LONG car ride. I am sure we will fight, get annoyed with one another, and crack up laughing as we add some new words our list. I love my family! I don't know how I got so lucky!

And Then There Was One

This year for Halloween we lost our two girls! They ran off to be with their friends and left us with just one kid. I have to admit that I was sad to let them go, but I know how important it was for them to be with friends. I have been trying to let them have more freedom and this has been painful for me. This past year Jordyn has been asking to go and do EVERYTHING and now my Emily is following behind her. My kids are growing up! Bill and I took Indiana Jones out for a fun night of trick or treating. He got 245 pieces of candy. This morning Emily and Jake weighed their candy and it was 12lbs. They were thrilled. Bill and I were plotting to get it out of our house.

Jordyn is full of life and SPUNK! On the way down to Utah we were listening to the radio KSL and people were calling in and they had 30 seconds of fame. You could say whatever you wanted and if the DJ liked you he would keep you on air, if not they would taze you and cut you off. Well a young girl called and said, "So today I got my black belt, and I took a test and ya I got my black belt." Jordyn thought that was so dumb and started to imitate the girl, then had an idea. She wanted to get on the air and do her imitation for the DJ. After many attempts she finally got on. And this is what she said in a ditzy voice, "Ummmm Yaaa soooo today I got a Black belt..... And yaaa I took a test, and I got my blackbelt! COUGARS ROCK! UTES SUCK!" The DJ's loved it and kept her on for about 30 seconds. We all had a good laugh.
It is hard to believe that this outgoing girl who is not afraid to do anything used to be so shy. She has really grown up!

Our weekend with the Fox Family

We went down to Utah to watch the Cougars win another game. It was Jordyn's turn to go with Bill and Brent. After the game we went to get pumpkins and went out to dinner to celebrate Amy's birthday. Our trips down never last long enough, but we always pack in as much fun as we can. We love the Fox family!

Building an Insulator

Jacob had to build an insulator for a school project. He had to construct it on his own, and use whatever materials he thought would keep an ice cube from melting. He put an ice cube in his insulator and one in a bowl to see which one would melt first. After 1 1/2 hours the cube was completely melted in the bowl, but still solid in his insulator. It was fun project to do!

Jacob is Sick!

Jacob woke up today sick. He came down stairs and said" my stomach hurts". The first thing I thought of was the YMCA. I don't know if it's the gross germs from the pool or just the stomach flu. He spent the day at home feeling pretty bad, and I spent the day taking care of him and bleaching everything!

Long Weekend

The kids were out of school Thursday and Friday, so we had a long weekend. We enjoyed sleeping in which was much needed. Friday we went swimming at the YMCA with Jacob's friend Trey. We didn't stay long because someone got sick in the pool and they cleared us all out. Ya I know, GROSS!!!! I am a germaphobe so I was freaking out. My kids took showers at the Y and again at home. I also kept putting hand sanitizer on them. So far we aren't sick so lets hope and pray all my craziness worked. I don't know why I am such a freak about germs but I can't help it. Well on a better note, this is a picture of our watermelon from our yard, Jordyn gave him a face and named him Schmoolie. Bill and Emily made apple pie! Our home smells so good. Those two love to bake!

Friend! Where have you been?

We've been super crazy lately and haven't had much to blog about. The girls both take 3 dance classes a week, Jacob is starting basketball, and they all have piano lessons each week, plus scouts, activity days, and mutual. Not to mention school and all that homework. So we haven't had time to blog, let alone breathe!

The Massacre

This weekend we travelled to Utah for the BYU/UCLA football game. My sister Anna graduated from UCLA and we graduated from BYU which led to some pre-game smack talk. I told her to get out her box of tissue because the Cougars were going to destroy the Bruins. BYU beat UCLA 59 to 0. It was an awesome game. It was Emily's turn to go the game with Bill. She had a great time hanging out with her dad and Brent. Jacob and I spent the day with Amy and the kids. We did some shopping and played at Jumping Jacks. Jordy stayed home and took a master dance class. Sabra and Kameron from "So You Think You Can Dance" taught the class.

We spent Labor Day weekend in Utah. We decided to get BYU season tickets again this year. Bill didn't have to say much to convince me, he knew that I wouldn't mind spending the money knowing that I would get to see Amy, and her sweet family. It amazes me how well our children get along in spite of the age gap, they are more like family to us than friends. We had a lot of fun, we always pack in as many activities as we can while we are down there. BYU beat Northern Iowa 41 to 17! It was a great trip.

Summer vacation has come and gone so quickly. We decided to take the boat out on Saturday evening to squeeze in a little more fun before school began. Goodbye summer fun!

The summer has gone by so quickly. I woke up today feeling kind of sad that the kids are going back to school, and I won't get to see them all day. I have enjoyed spending my days with them. Monday they will be off to school and our life will be crazy busy again. I have been blessed to be a stay at home Mom for the past 14 years. I am so grateful to Bill for giving me this gift. He has always worked so hard and has provided well for our family so I could be here at home with our three children. Well my children are growing up and not home very often anymore. So sad but yet so exciting to see them grow and experience life. They are wonderful, I am sooooo blessed.

Today we took Emily to the Dentist to get 2 teeth pulled. What was supposed to be an easy procedure turned into 3 hours of tugging, filing, splitting teeth in half and not to mention tons of tears and of course...getting sick and throwing up on the Dentist. As Emily said...PAYBACK! Poor Emily had a hard day, so to make up for her pain she is living off of milk shakes and jello, that sure eases the pain. She is very swollen and the Dentist said she may even have two black eyes by morning. The Dentist said in her 25 years of practice she has never seen a case like this. The roots of Emily's baby teeth fused to her permanent teeth, so to get them out they had to cut her teeth in half and pull them out in pieces. It was a hard process to watch, and for her to endure. If you were considering Botox to make your lips fuller we found a new treatment! 20 shots of novacaine and your good to go :)

A Day Of Fun!

Jacob has been asking all summer for a family day at Boondocks. Well we kept our promise and took the kids on Saturday. We got unlimited all day passes so we did everything over and over. It was a great way to bring the summer to a close and enjoy time together as a family. The kids loved it, especially the biggest kid of all Bill!

I Love To See The Temple

On Friday night we drove down to Twin Falls to see the new temple. We had a great time. The temple was beautiful inside and out. It was a great way to spend our anniversary. After we went to dinner with family. We had so much fun!

This past weekend we went to beautiful McCall Idaho for a work party with Bill's law firm. We took our boat up along with several other families and had so much fun skiing, wake boarding, and tubing. We had a blast and came home exhausted!

Eagle Island

This summer I have spent a lot of time with my kids and they crack me up! If you know me, you know that I like to joke around and obviously passed that trait onto my kids. When Bill comes home from work and asks me how my day has been I always have a lot of crazy things to tell him. Here are some of our favorites. At swimming lessons another mom commented on how skinny Jacob is. As he was drying off, I told him, "Buddy, you need to get some meat on your bones!" He replied with a straight face, "No thanks, I don't like chicken." A few weeks ago while we were camping the girls and I shared a tent. Jordyn had her ipod, and told me that she can only fall asleep listening to classical music, Emily leaned over and said, "well the only way I can fall asleep is listening to Weird Al." Then she sang us a lullaby, White and nerdy! Jordyn always has her phone on her and will be sitting right next to me and instead of speaking she texts me random things like, "Hey mom myfundszalow can I have some money?" When I'm not in the best mood she will text me "drinking the haterade today?" We have some strange lingo in our house, many might find it weird but we all laugh! Our latest one is "hey ya Fern!" Our family is loud crazy and fun!

If you know our family you know how much we love baseball. Jacob played on the Dodgers this year. He enjoyed learning how to pitch, playing real baseball and spitting sunflower seeds like his dad. It was a great season and he can't wait until next year.

We have had a busy and fun summer so far. I have tried really hard to stay at home and save as much money as I can by not filling up our SUV. The girls dance twice a week and all three kids have piano but we have been trying to find things to do around our home. We have done a lot of baking, Emily loves to cook. We made jam and bread this past weekend. Jacob joined in as soon as he heard that we needed to "punch down" the bread dough. It is so fun having a boy!
We recieved some great news from our dear friends the Fox family. Their little son Brandon had surgery yesterday and everything went smoothly and he was able to come home in less than 24 hours. We were so happy for this wonderful news.

Busy Summer

Jacob was baptized in May he was so excited! Our close friends the Foxs came into town from Utah to stay with us, we had so much fun visiting with them. We had Bill's family attend the baptism also, it was such a great day.
School is out and we have been very busy. Jordyn turned 14! We celebrated her birthday at Aunt Shannon and Uncle Rob's house by having a swim party. Jordyn had her friend Ashlin come along. Bill and I took her out on a day of shopping and dinner at P F Changs. We can't believe Jordyn is 14 and going to high school!

Jacob is 8 and in the 3rd grade, he loves to play sports especially baseball. He loves to read, play the piano, going tubing on the boat, and he loves school. Jacob loves to play catch with his Dad and hit baseballs over the fence. He is funny and bright and knows how to spell EVERYTHING!

Emily is 11 and in 6th grade, she loves to dance, play piano, wake board, and make our family laugh. She is daring and always has a smile on her face and a hat on her head. Emily has a love for her pet bunny Oreo, she lugs him around the house like a baby!

Jordyn is 14 and in 9th grade. She enjoys dancing,cheerleading, playing piano, and being crazy with her friends. She is always on the go and texting someone! She is a great student and is looking forward to driving next year, but I'm not!
